Spanish Police Bust Moroccan Ring for Fake Work Permit Scheme in Canary Islands

Seven Moroccans were arrested in the Canary Islands for their alleged involvement in a document forgery case.
The men were offering fake employment contracts to foreign citizens on behalf of companies they were running or advising, according to a police statement cited by the Spanish press. The same source specifies that several of them already had a heavy criminal record.
The cat was out of the bag in March 2018 when the Spanish police had arrested a Moroccan national in possession of a fake employment contract, which would have allowed him to obtain a residence permit and legal work in Spain, through the sub-delegation of the government of Las Palmas.
Arrested, the defendant had explained that he had obtained it after paying a sum of money to a consultant.
The investigations led to the arrest of seven Moroccan workers who had never set foot on their workplace. In addition, about thirty fake contracts were also identified as well as complicit companies.
