Spanish Police Bust Hashish Smuggling Ring, Seize 172 Kilos in Cádiz

The Spanish police dismantled a hashish trafficking network from Morocco to Portugal, active for five years. In total, two people were arrested and 172 kilos of hashish seized.
The two individuals, one of Spanish origin and the other Portuguese, were arrested during a joint operation carried out in El Puerto de Santa María (Cádiz) by the national police, the civil guard, the customs surveillance service of the tax administration and the Portuguese judicial police, reports Ok Diairo.
In total, 160 hashish balls weighing 172 kilos were seized in a warehouse, as well as 63,000 euros in cash, mobile phones, a vehicle, a laptop and many documents proving that the accused have been carrying out this illegal trafficking since 2016.
The Spanish national crossed the strait to the Moroccan coast on his sailboat, on board of which he loaded the hashish. Back in Spanish territorial waters, he requested maritime assistance, claiming to have suffered a breakdown, in order to have the boat towed to the port. Then he moved the drug in small batches to the warehouse, waiting for the right time to take it out of the country.
Last June, this same drug trafficker had docked at the Barbate marina, claiming to have been attacked by an orca in the Strait of Gibraltar. After several investigations, the police discovered that he was very active in the hashish traffic to Lisbon and that he had links with a Portuguese, known for his drug trafficking crimes and illegal possession of weapons.
