Spanish Police Accused of Shooting Moroccan Migrants Near Ceuta Border

The Spanish police are said to have shot at Moroccan migrants near the borders with the enclave of Ceuta, injuring two. The two injured are said to be out of danger.

The injured, one in the shoulder and the other in the chest, would be at the Saniet Rmel hospital in Tetouan to receive care.

Before this blunder, the Spanish security forces deployed armored vehicles and used tear gas to disperse the migrants who were trying to enter the Spanish enclave of Ceuta. A situation that created strong tensions and hardened the will of the young people, women and children who were trying to cross the barriers.

The Spanish enclave in northern Morocco has seen an increase in attempts at irregular migration in recent days. Reports estimate the number of migrants, including Moroccans and sub-Saharan Africans, at over 6,000. This unprecedented migratory flow for Spain, of which Morocco is a key ally in the fight against illegal immigration, is also worrying the Rabat authorities.

The Moroccan security forces intervened on Tuesday to put an end to this influx of arrivals. The surveillance system has also been reinforced in the early hours around the Fnideq border post. The security forces used non-lethal weapons to disperse the crowd.
