Spanish-Moroccan Runner Mohamed Katir Shatters 24-Year-Old 1500m National Record

The Spanish athlete of Moroccan origin, Mohamed Katir, broke on Friday at the Diamond League, the record of Fermin Cacho (Zurich, 1997) in the 1500 meters, with a time of 3:28.76.
Moroccan Mohamed Katir finished second in the 1500 meters of this competition which was held on Friday at the Louis II stadium in Monaco, after the Kenyan Timothy Cheruiyot (3:28.28). With this performance, the 23-year-old athlete now holds the national record in the 1500 meters, held for 24 years by Fermin Cacho who is also Olympic champion in Barcelona ’92.

Mohamed Katir, licensed in Murcia de Mula, is currently in excellent shape and is chaining performances. Since the last Diamond League in Florence, he holds the new record of Spain in the 5,000 meters, with a performance of 12:50.79. He is preparing for the Tokyo Olympics where he intends to break a new record in the 5km.
