Spanish-Moroccan Runner Katir Rebounds, Leads 5,000m Qualifiers at Olympics

After a disappointment in the 1,500 meters, where Mohamed Katir failed to qualify for the final even after leading the race, the Spanish middle-distance hope has bounced back.
The athlete of Moroccan origin has secured his place in the 5,000 meters final with the fastest time in his series. He tells Olympics.com: "I felt very good. Motivated, with anger, but above all, with lucidity." His tactic was to position himself at the back before accelerating in the last lap.
