Spanish-Moroccan Man Missing After Suspected Drug Trafficking Operation at Sea

Adil Lamsiyah, 20, a young Spaniard of Moroccan origin, disappeared at sea on February 25, the day he boarded a boat in Balerma, a small town in Almeria. His family reported his disappearance to the Civil Guard on Friday. For now, the searches have yielded nothing.

The young man’s presence was last reported on a boat 30 miles from Cabo de Gata. He would have been recruited as a "petaquero" by a drug trafficking network. His role was to transport between 50 and 60 gasoline cans on a boat to other boats in order to load drugs. Adil has not given any sign of life for two weeks. Worried, his mother, Samira, reported his disappearance to the Civil Guard on Friday, reports El Español.

When he left Balerma, the young man of Moroccan origin was accompanied by two people: Khaled Khayati, 32, whose family residing in France has filed a complaint, and a third young man whose identity remains unknown. According to Jalal Benaissa, Adil’s uncle, the young man contacted his girlfriend before boarding this boat and even sent her a video in which he informed her that he was leaving for a few days, without giving any details about his destination.

The uncle claims that his nephew was leading a normal life. Adil was pursuing his studies while working in a well-known fruit store, where his father also works as a waiter. During the summer, he worked as a lifeguard. In the course of February, he was fired from the store due to low agricultural production. In search of a source of income, he did not hesitate to accept the offer to participate in this illegal activity.

Adil is the youngest of a family of three children. "His parents are devastated," details his uncle. The Civil Guard has opened an investigation to try to find the young man. But for the moment, the searches have still yielded nothing. For their part, the family has not remained idle. Adil’s mother went to the home of the alleged head of the criminal network. Rather than reassuring her, the latter let her know that the situation is "hopeless, your son will not come back".
