Spanish-Moroccan Drug Ring Busted: Over 4 Tons of Cocaine Seized in International Sting

The Spanish police, in collaboration with the Portuguese security forces, dismantled on Monday a network of drug traffickers who wanted to introduce drugs from Morocco into Spain, hidden in a fishing boat. In total, 20 people were arrested and 4,248 kilograms of cocaine seized.
The agents opened an investigation in June 2020 on a Spaniard of Moroccan origin who was running a criminal organization dedicated to cocaine trafficking in Europe. Investigators observed that members of this network were transporting a large quantity of cocaine in a fishing boat that crossed the Atlantic before reaching Spain, according to 20minutos.
The joint device set up by the police forces of Spain, Colombia, the United States, France and Venezuela, made it possible to discover how the fishing boat recovered, transported and delivered the goods. The modus operandi of the drug traffickers aimed to ensure security during the exchange, as this type of boat is undetectable at a certain latitude.
In total, the operation led to the arrest of eight Venezuelan nationals and the seizure of 177 bales containing 248 kilograms of cocaine. Twelve other people were also arrested in Venezuela.
