Spanish Man Sentenced to 4 Years for Smuggling 12kg of Moroccan Cannabis into France

Francisco Campanario, 59, a Spanish national from Seville, was sentenced to four years in prison and ten years of ban from the territory. Customs discovered 12kg of cannabis in his vehicle during a check at the La Turbie toll booth on the A8.
After his arrest, the retiree accused of drug trafficking claimed to have acted "out of necessity", reports Nice-matin. Similarly, Francisco Campanario hinted that he had accepted a proposal from a certain Samy. However, "everything shows that he is a mule".
The suspect presents himself as an unemployed upholsterer, without income or work. He also admitted to having received 3,000 euros to ensure the transport of 12 kg of cannabis between Spain and Italy, his final destination being Brescia.
Facing President Alain Chemama during the hearing, he acknowledged having been previously convicted in Spain to three and a half years in prison due to his involvement in a drug trafficking case, the same source specifies. He also admitted, during his police custody, to having carried out an import of hashish between Morocco and his country in 1998. He had also been convicted in this case.
Prosecutor Brigitte Funel requested five years’ imprisonment with a committal order. Subsequently, the court rendered its verdict: Franciso Campanario was sentenced to four years in prison and ten years of ban from the territory.
