Spanish Man Faces Prison for Spreading False Anti-Moroccan Content Online

The public prosecutor’s office of the Barcelona court has requested two years in prison against a Spanish internet user who disseminated false images on social networks with the aim of inciting violence against unaccompanied foreign minors. Moroccans were targeted.

The defendant disseminated on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram photos and videos to incite hatred and violence towards migrant minors, reports 20minutos. In a video posted on July 1, 2019, a minor is seen violently assaulting a woman by delivering several blows to her head in Canet de Mar (Barcelona). However, these are actually images taken in China.

"This has nothing to do with any event that occurred in Spain, let alone in the city of Canet de Mar," the prosecution points out, accusing the defendant of an offense against the dignity of persons. For these acts, it is requesting that the defendant be sentenced to a two-year prison term and the payment of a daily fine of 18 euros over a period of twelve months.

The prosecution is also demanding that the right to vote be suspended during the duration of his sentence and that he be prohibited from practicing a profession in the fields of education, sports or leisure for five years from the date the judgment is handed down.

The incriminating video was viewed 21,900 times. It contains xenophobic messages and images denigrating "Arabs". The defendant even went so far as to post a photo of Hitler, presenting him as "the solution" to the "problem of minors".
