Spanish Man Arrested for Racist Attack on Moroccan Near Zaragoza

A 27-year-old Spaniard was arrested and placed in pre-trial detention for assaulting a Moroccan and running over several people with his car near Zaragoza. He is accused of assault and battery and reckless driving.
The defendant was arrested by the Civil Guard of Calamocha and made available to the judge of the Court of First Instance of the city, who ordered his pre-trial detention, the seizure of his vehicle and the withdrawal of his driver’s license. The judge set his bail at 5,000 euros, an amount he will pay quickly, assures his lawyer, Clemente Peribáñez. The judge also issued a 300-meter restraining order and a communication ban against the Moroccan he is said to have provoked.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday. Two Spanish nationals, including the defendant, provoked two other men, a Moroccan and a Dominican, who were in a vehicle. "The fucking Moors are here!" one of the Spaniards allegedly shouted at the other two, leading to a violent brawl between the two groups. Immediately afterwards, the detainee’s vehicle rushed into the group and ran over at least three people without stopping. After being able to control the vehicle, the detainee got out and continued to fight with the others.
An investigation has been opened to determine the causes of this brawl.
