Spanish Left-Wing Party Challenges Sánchez’s Morocco Policy on Western Sahara

The Sumar party will challenge Pedro Sanchez’s decision to recognize Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara, if it participates in the coalition government.
Sumar does not appreciate the cooperation dynamic of President Pedro Sánchez with Morocco, particularly on the Sahara issue. The party of Yolanda Diaz has already made it known by appointing the Sahrawi Tesh Sidi as third vice-president. The latter is also expected to be part of the next coalition government with the aim of reviewing foreign policy and reversing Spain’s change of position on the Sahara, reports Moncloa.
The mere presence of the Sahrawi activist Tesh Sidi in the next government is already drawing criticism in Morocco. But Sumar is determined to fight so that Spain returns to its position of neutrality in the Sahara conflict. Yolanda Diaz’s party does not approve of Pedro Sanchez’s recognition of the Moroccanness of the Sahara, a decision made by the Prime Minister without consulting the Congress of Deputies, it had denounced. The party has the support of the deputies of the Partido Popular (PP), Vox and Podemos.
