Spanish Interior Minister to Visit Morocco for Talks on Migration and Security

Morocco will host on November 20 the Spanish Minister of the Interior for a working visit. Fernando Grande-Marlaska himself announced it in Las Palmas.
During a press conference held jointly with the European Commissioner for Home Affairs, Ylva Johansson, and the Canarian President, Angel Torres, the Spanish Minister of the Interior outlined the topics that will be on the agenda of his working visit to Rabat.
"During this visit, I will hold a meeting with my Moroccan counterpart, [Abdelouafi Laftit], to discuss several issues, including the management of migration flows," said Grande-Marlaska.
Recently, the Spanish minister had visited Mauritania, Algeria and Tunisia in turn to discuss cooperation on migration. During his trip to Morocco, this same concern will be discussed, within the framework of cooperation with countries of origin and transit.
Following a significant increase in the arrival of illegal migrants on the coasts of the archipelago, Grande-Marlaska and the European Commissioner visited the Canary Islands to address the same issue.
In total, 12,700 illegal immigrants have arrived in the Canary Islands since the beginning of the year on board 449 boats, according to the President of the Canarian government, Angel Torres.
