Spanish Intelligence Suspected in Covert Transfer of Polisario Leader to Hospital

The driver of the ambulance that transported Brahim Ghali to the hospital in Logroño confirmed to the police that a civilian man gave "instructions" to the military at the Zaragoza air base upon the arrival of the Polisario Front leader.
The mysterious figure, in "suit and tie," was in charge of "coordinating" the ambulance transfer of Brahim Ghali, from the Zaragoza base to the San Pedro de Logroño hospital where he was admitted until June 1st, reports La Razon, specifying that according to sources consulted, the man could be an agent of the police commissioner for information, Eugenio Pereiro.
The latter, during his appearance last November before Judge Rafael Lasala, had assured that an informant he did not want to name had informed him of Ghali’s arrival in Spain on April 18, and that he had reported the information to his superior, the Deputy Director of Operations (DAO) of the police, who instructed him to take the necessary arrangements for his transfer to Logroño.

In his statement made to the La Rioja police headquarters on January 26, the ambulance driver said the man must be an officer as he "seemed to be giving instructions to the military." According to his account, it was this person who "gave the directives and coordinated the transfer of the patient from the plane to the ambulance on the tarmac."
Furthermore, the nurse accompanying the driver said she saw "two people at the airport, one in uniform with whom she had a brief conversation and the other in civilian clothes who left the premises a few minutes later." But these witnesses claim not to recognize Camilo Villarino, the former chief of staff of Minister Arancha González Laya, who was in charge of coordinating Ghali’s arrival in Spain with the military authorities.
