Spanish Imports of Moroccan Textiles Plummet 15% in First Half of 2023

Moroccan textile exports to Spain have recorded a significant decline in the first half of the year, according to data published by Icex Spain Exports and Investments.
From January to June 2023, Moroccan fashion exports to Spain fell by 15.3%, reaching 806.6 million euros. Morocco is Spain’s sixth supplier. Turkey, the third supplier last year, has fallen to fifth place, with exports worth 1.3 billion euros, a 17.5% drop compared to the same period in 2022, reports Modaes.
On the other hand, French fashion exports to Spain increased by 17.8% during the period. The country becomes Spain’s third supplier, while Germany ranks seventh with a 15.1% increase in exports. With a 4.9% increase, Italy remains Spain’s fourth largest fashion exporter.
China and Bangladesh have maintained their position as Spain’s top suppliers, with a 0.1% increase for China and a 0.1% decrease for Bangladesh compared to the same figures for the first half of 2022.
In terms of exports to Europe, France is Spain’s top customer during the period, followed by Italy, Portugal, Germany and the UK, whose purchases fell by 10%. While Germany increased its purchases of Spanish fashion by 16.7%, the United States reduced its purchases by 21.7%.
