Spanish Foreign Minister Rebukes Opposition Over Morocco Visit Criticism

The Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, reproached the Popular Party (PP) for its lack of knowledge of a "State policy" and relations with Morocco. The party criticized the fact that Pedro Sanchez was not received by King Mohammed VI upon his arrival in Rabat on Wednesday.

"These are the statements of a party that does not know what a State policy is, which is the foreign policy of Spain," Albares said after the arrival in Rabat on Wednesday of Pedro Sanchez and the ministers accompanying him to attend the High-Level Meeting. The Spanish delegation was received at the airport by the Moroccan Prime Minister, Aziz Akhannouch.

The PP’s Deputy Secretary, Esteban González Pons, considered this welcome from Morocco to the Spanish delegation, which was not received by Mohammed VI, as a "great humiliation", wondering if Pedro Sanchez was "free" in the face of Morocco which "ignores him so much".

"The only denial comes from the PP," reacted the Minister of Foreign Affairs, who wonders if the PP understands the importance of the new relationship with Morocco "for Ceuta, for Melilla, for the Canary Islands, for Andalusia, for Spain." Albares specified that the Spanish government "will spare no effort to defend the interests of the Spanish people" and maintain the "best possible relations" with all neighboring countries.
