Spanish Foreign Minister to Face Congress Ahead of Crucial Morocco Summit

The Popular Party (PP) is demanding the appearance before Congress of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, before the holding of the High-Level Meeting with Morocco, scheduled for February 1 and 2 in Rabat.
The PP wants Albares to appear before Congress before this important meeting with Morocco to discuss with the Foreign Affairs Committee the issues that will be discussed there and the government’s position on the points of friction with Morocco.
Scheduled for December 2020 and postponed several times due to the health crisis related to Covid-19, then the diplomatic crisis following the reception in Spain of the Polisario Front leader, Brahim Ghali, the high-level Morocco-Spain meeting is finally being held on February 1 and 2 in Rabat, seven years after the last session organized in June 2015 in Madrid.
President Pedro Sanchez will attend this Hispano-Moroccan summit with a dozen ministers, all members of socialist parties. No minister member of Podemos or left-wing parties will participate in this meeting, due to their position contrary to that of Sanchez, clearly expressed, on the change of position on the Sahara.
