Spanish Foreign Minister Calls for UN-Backed Solution to Western Sahara Conflict

A "political and fair" solution will definitively resolve the crisis in the Moroccan Sahara. This is at least what Arancha Gonzalez Laya, the Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs, the EU and Cooperation, pleads for.
In an interview with the newspaper ABC, published on Sunday, Arancha Gonzalez Laya reaffirmed Spain’s position for a way out of the crisis in the Moroccan Sahara. "We defend the search for a political and fair solution that responds to all the parameters expressed in the United Nations resolutions," she hammered.
The Spanish Foreign Minister particularly stressed that respect for the ceasefire is of crucial importance. Likewise, Arancha Gonzalez Laya indicated the urgency of appointing a new personal envoy of the UN Secretary General so that he "can provide a negotiated channel for this solution," notes La Map.
In addition, the Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs noted that between Spain and the parties concerned, contacts are permanent, particularly with her "Moroccan, Mauritanian and Algerian counterparts".
Arancha Gonzalez Laya also specified that, on the issue of the Moroccan Sahara, Spain’s position is defined by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. And this point in particular is "included in the Government Agreement that led to the formation of a coalition government between the Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party (PSOE) and Podemos," reports the same source.
