Spanish Fishing Vessel Vanishes Off Morocco Coast, Search Underway for 6 Crew Members

The Spanish ship Rúa Mar disappeared during the night of January 22, while it was not far from Moroccan territorial waters. Six crew members were on board.
According to information provided by Salvamento Marítimo, "the alert from its radio beacon was received" that same evening. This is also confirmed by sources from the government representative in the newspaper Diario de Cádiz. According to the latter, "the radio beacon of the Rúa Mar issued a shipwreck alert".
Searches were immediately launched to find this fishing boat. Among other things, a Helimer 207 helicopter, the Sasemar 101 aircraft and the Sar Mastelero ship are participating in the search. For his part, José Ignacio Landaluce, mayor of Algeciras, said he is in constant contact with the family that owns the fishing boat, as well as with the competent public administrations, to closely monitor the search work for the boat.
Due to the strong winds blowing in the region, the mayor has recommended "caution, pending official news" that will be communicated by the search team.
