Spanish Fishing Boats Resume Operations in Moroccan Waters After License Approval

Four Spanish fishing boats, based in the port of Barbate, have been authorized to resume their fishing activities in Moroccan waters, after completing the necessary formalities in Tangier.
These four boats have obtained their licenses to fish in Moroccan waters for one month, after paying about 2,000 euros to the competent Moroccan authorities, reports Diario de Cadiz. Thus, they are once again authorized to fish for anchovies, sardines, horse mackerel and mackerel and to sell them at auction on the fish market in the port of Barbate.

In total, 840 crates of anchovies and 67 of sardines were unloaded by these fishing boats in this port. According to Fernando Ardan, head of auctions at the fish market, these Moroccan anchovies are of good size and are highly appreciated by the hotel industry and canning establishments.
Apart from these four boats, the rest of the fleet usually fishes in the national fishing area of the Gulf of Cadiz. After this month, these four boats will not return to fish in Moroccan waters until the beginning of April, when the weather conditions are better.
