Spanish Farmers Launch Boycott of Moroccan Produce Amid Diplomatic Tensions

Some Spanish farmers have launched a boycott campaign against Moroccan agricultural products, particularly tomatoes. This adds to the diplomatic crisis between Morocco and Spain.
Entitled "Origen Marruecos" (Origin Morocco), the boycott campaign launched by some Spanish farmers is supported by Clara Aguilera, a Spanish member of the European Parliament. She has proposed applying stricter import quotas on Moroccan goods exported to the EU, reports Xinhua.
"Indeed, there were threats against Moroccan farmers and Spanish farmer exporters," said Rachid Aourras, former founding member of the Moroccan Institute of Policy Analysis, explaining that Spanish farmers sometimes block Moroccan trucks when they arrive on Spanish territory.
Will Moroccan producers retaliate? According to the Moroccan economist, "they will not act on a personal basis, as they prefer to have the support of the government. A boycott movement is a ’possible scenario’, but for now the ’conflict is under control’," he added.
Furthermore, he remains hopeful that the diplomatic crisis between Morocco and Spain will be resolved. "I think other parties, particularly France, will intervene to arbitrate between them," he is convinced.
