Spanish Far-Right Party Vox Pushes for Clear Maritime Borders with Morocco in Ceuta and Melilla

The Vox party has tabled a bill in Congress asking the government to take the necessary measures to proceed with the delineation of the borders in Ceuta and Melilla in order to properly delimit the Spanish territorial waters in these areas near Morocco.
In its proposal submitted to the Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Commission of Congress and to which Europa Press had access, the far-right party has asked the government, in accordance with the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea and the Spanish law of 1967 on the matter, to proceed with the tracing of these borders with Morocco to preserve the territorial integrity of Spain.

The problems of delimitation of the maritime spaces that Spain has with Morocco are due to the fact that there is no "agreement or convention" with the kingdom, notes Vox, which explains that Spain "has not established tracings in the areas where Ceuta and Melilla are located, but rather uses the normal baseline in the delimitation of our sovereignty or jurisdiction waters", while Morocco "has drawn straight baselines [...] surrounding Ceuta and Melilla, the Chafarinas Islands and the rocks in Moroccan internal waters".
