Spanish Far-Right Party Vox Criticizes Migrant Surge Despite Morocco Diplomacy

The Vox party denounced on Monday the arrival of 293 migrants to the Canary Islands over the weekend, stressing that the change in Spain’s position on the Sahara, which ended the crisis with Morocco, has not yet changed the migration situation.
The party’s vice president, Jorge Buxadé, recalled during a press conference that Pedro Sanchez decided to support Morocco’s autonomy plan for the Sahara "in exchange" for guarantees of the territorial integrity of the two countries. But this is not yet the case, he lamented, indicating that "this weekend, in 24 hours, 293 illegal immigrants, mostly Maghrebis, arrived in the Canary Islands."

"’In exchange’, this means that border protection is guaranteed," explained the Vox leader, before insisting that "the problem of immigration and human trafficking must be attacked at the source."
