Spanish Far-Right Leader Accuses Morocco of Humiliating Spain Over Territorial Waters Dispute

Morocco’s sovereign decision to delimit its territorial waters with Spain and Mauritania continues to cause waves. Santiago Abascal, leader of the Spanish far-right party Vox, accused the kingdom of humiliating his country.

"Spain is currently alone and humiliated by Europe, but also by Morocco, which today proclaims its sovereignty over our territorial waters. Due to the softness of the Sanchez government and the betrayal of the separatists, Morocco finds us weak and tries to abuse us."

This is how Santiago Abascal, leader of the Spanish far-right party Vox, expressed himself during the investiture debate. In short, the sovereign decision of Morocco to delimit its territorial waters is not to the liking of the politician.

To counter the ambitions of Europe and the kingdom, Santiago Abascal called for a "general straightening of Spanish domestic and foreign policy" while proposing a shock therapy, reports El Periodico. This involves the effective claim of sovereignty over the island of Gibraltar and the expulsion of the British, the arrest of the Catalan separatists and the expulsion of Morocco from the "territorial waters of the Canary Islands".

In December 2019, Morocco had decided to delimit the outline of its territorial waters. In this sense, the Committee on Foreign Affairs, National Defense, Islamic Affairs and Moroccans Residing Abroad approved, on Monday, December 16, two draft laws.
