Spain Demands Answers on Morocco’s Territorial Waters Expansion Near Canary Islands

Morocco’s decision to delimit the course of its territorial waters through the approval of two important texts continues to cause waves. Nationalists from the Canary Islands have asked Margarita Robles, Spain’s interim Minister of Foreign Affairs, the European Union and Cooperation, to explain herself on this subject.
These nationalists demand that Margarita Robles provide them with clarifications "as soon as possible" on the efforts made before the decision deemed "unilateral" by Morocco to establish a delimitation of the maritime space with Spain and Mauritania, reports Hespress. This decision provides for the integration of the sea adjacent to the Sahara.
For them, the arguments put forward by Morocco to justify the indefinite postponement in the treatment of the subject are implausible. According to Moroccan diplomatic sources, the Moroccan government is moving forward with the two draft laws 37-17 and 38-16.
The nationalists of the Canaries-PNC Coalition also intend to bring the matter before Parliament and the Senate. They want information on the content of the conversations held between the Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs ad interim, Margarita Robles, her predecessor Josepp Borell and Nasser Bourita, the Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, it is specified.
