Spanish Court Sentences Moroccan Man to Prison for Islamic State Indoctrination

One of the two Moroccan suspected jihadists arrested in Bolaños de Calatrava (Ciudad Real) in May 2020 was sentenced to two years in prison for indoctrination. The second was released. The prosecution had requested three and a half years in prison against them.
The two defendants, Sidi Badr El Baqali Baquia and Abdelouahed Dahbani Ettamini, admitted the facts on Tuesday before the court. The first, a member of the Islamic State arrested while preparing an attack in Spain, has remained in pre-trial detention since his arrest. According to the prosecution, the defendant has "put into practice the overall strategy of the Islamic State, not only by participating in cyber activity, but also by developing indoctrination within a group that aligns with the Islamic State" and which "gives instructions to jihadists on how to escape the surveillance of Western authorities".
As for Abdelouahed Dahbani Ettamini, considered a collaborator of Baquia in the indoctrination tasks, he is free to move around, the sentence requested against him by the prosecution not exceeding two years and having a clean criminal record.
According to the prosecution, the two held "regular meetings during which they reinforced their jihadist ideals and their position in favor of the terrorist organization Daesh".
