Spanish Court to Retry Moroccan-Mexican Couple in ISIS Recruitment Case

A Moroccan and his Mexican wife could well see the sentences they were given in court in Spain annulled or reduced. They had been sentenced to six years and one year in prison respectively. But they have never stopped claiming they were innocent. They will be retried.
This Spanish national of Moroccan origin and his Mexican-born wife had been arrested as part of the dismantling of a terrorist cell and the arrest of its members. They had been arrested for the crime of supporting terrorism. The couple has always pleaded "Not guilty." They were also accused of recruiting terrorists intended to feed the ranks of ISIS.
The man had been sentenced to 6 years in prison and his wife to one year behind bars by the Madrid Court. But the couple had appealed to the High Court of Justice (National Audience) to have this judgment invalidated, claiming they were innocent of the charges against them. According to this man and this woman, although they were active on social media and discussed issues related to terrorism in Syria, they were fundamentally opposed to it.
In any case, three members of the dismantled Cell would have reached an agreement with the Attorney General. He promised to review their sentences downward if they told everything, which they accepted. So, in parallel with the potential new data, the Moroccan and his Mexican wife will be retried. Perhaps they will see an adjustment of the indicated sentences or not. It will be enough for the three members of the Cell to confirm their innocence.
The new verdict will be handed down at the beginning of next week, report several local Spanish media.
