Spanish Court’s Light Sentence Shocks Family of Slain Moroccan Immigrant

A Moroccan family, originally from Béni Mellal, was surprised by the light sentence handed down by a Spanish court against the murderer of their son, a Moroccan residing in Spain.
The story goes back to 2014. A Moroccan national named Mohamed Najib Benaqqa, living with his small family in the Albacete region, was fatally stabbed by a South American.
According to the Hespress website, while witnesses mention a premeditated murder committed by the defendant and his accomplices, others claim that the Moroccan had been the victim of a fatal knife blow while trying to intervene in a dispute between them.
The newspaper La tribuna de Albacete wrote that the Paraguayan involved in the murder of the Moroccan national on December 21, 2014, was sentenced to 4 years in prison for involuntary manslaughter. His Romanian companion was acquitted.
Denouncing the judgment issued by the Spanish court, the victim’s brother, Youssef Benaqqa, who spoke on behalf of the family, described the sentence against the defendant as unjust, adding that the victim had two young children.
