Spanish Consul in Marrakech Awarded Prestigious Order of Isabella the Catholic

For her personal involvement and unwavering commitment to strengthening Moroccan-Spanish relations and diplomatic, cultural and tourism cooperation between the two countries, the Honorary Consul of Spain in Marrakech, Khadija El Gabsi, was decorated on Friday evening with the Cross of the Order of Isabel La Católica of the Kingdom of Spain.

This ceremony was attended by the Minister of Justice, Mohamed Benabdelkader, the President of the Marrakech-Safi region, Ahmed Akhchichine and the President of the Marrakech City Council, Larbi Belcaïd.

Likewise, eminent personalities from the world of politics, business, diplomacy, art and the media participated in the reception by Ms. El Gabsi of her decoration, from the hands of the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Spain to Morocco, Ricardo Díez-Hochleitner, on behalf of the King of Spain, Felipe VI.

During the ceremony, Díez-Hochleitner stressed that Khadija El Gabsi lived 20 years in Spain where she worked tirelessly and devotedly to strengthen relations between the two countries.

According to the MAP, citing the words of Ricardo Díez-Hochleitner, this decoration aroused unanimity and enthusiasm among all of El Gabsi’s friends.

This decoration comes, among other things, to reward the diplomat for her multiple significant contributions to several events including COP 22, the twinning between Seville and Marrakech, to name but a few.

"I am doubly honored to receive this prestigious distinction which touches me as much as it obliges me. First honored because it is awarded by the Kingdom of Spain, a country that welcomed me for several years," rejoiced Khadija El Gabsi, who also expressed her joy at receiving this distinction in Marrakech, her hometown that she loves so much.

"This distinction is an invitation to further commit myself to the development of relations between Morocco and Spain," she acknowledged, convinced of the responsibilities that are hers.
