Spanish Construction Firm Rubau Tarres Exits Morocco After 5-Year Boom

After 5 flourishing years in the construction sector in Morocco, the Spanish group Rubau Tarres, based in Tangier, has handed over the keys.
Rubau Tarres had managed to win several contracts, including the construction of the new headquarters of the province of Ouazzane between 2012 and 2014.
In just over a year, the company carried out several projects for the government and European companies wishing to establish themselves on Moroccan soil, worth more than 8.6 million euros.
After this period of good business, the family group went through a difficult period, resulting in an inability to renew the order book and significant financial losses. The health and economic crisis also complicated matters in a struggling construction sector, reports Challenge.
A crisis that has already pushed several players in this sector either to drastically reduce their ambitions or to go into collective bankruptcy proceedings.
Backed into a corner, the owners of Rubau Tarres proceeded to liquidate the Moroccan subsidiary. Morocco was until recently the only location of the group outside Europe where its presence is limited to the Iberian Peninsula and France.
It should be recalled that Rubau Tarres is a construction group based in Gerona. Founded in 1971, this company focuses its activity in five different areas: civil engineering, construction, concession operations (particularly car parks), road maintenance and construction materials manufacturing.
