Spanish Civil Guards Arrested in Drug Trafficking Probe at Gibraltar Strait

The Algeciras investigating court ordered the provisional detention of three Civil Guards accused of crimes against public health, corruption and membership in a criminal organization. They would be linked to drug traffickers in Morocco.
The three Civil Guards (one retired, another serving in the province of Cádiz and a third assigned to Ceuta) as well as a fourth accused, are the subject of an investigation for alleged crimes against public health, passive corruption and membership in a criminal organization, according to judicial sources at El Faro de Ceuta. They were arrested during the anti-drug operation carried out in the Strait of Gibraltar by the Algeciras Civil Guard command.
According to the investigations, the three agents informed the drug trafficking network they were collaborating with of the anti-drug operation so that the traffickers could take steps to avoid being caught. For the prosecutor’s office, there is no doubt that the three Civil Guards are members of the criminal network. The court decided to prosecute them in a state of arrest.
The investigation continues in order to determine the modus operandi of the Civil Guards who provided reliable information to the members of the network.
