Spanish Civil Guard Expels Moroccan Fishing Vessel from Ceuta Waters

A Moroccan fishing boat was asked on Saturday to leave the Spanish waters near Ceuta, by the Maritime Service of the Civil Guard, which had been alerted to its presence by a Spanish Navy patrol boat.
The intervention took place on Saturday, after a Spanish coastal patrol boat, which was sailing in the vicinity of the autonomous city, informed the Maritime Service of the Civil Guard of the presence of the Moroccan fishing boat in Spanish waters, reports El Faro de Ceuta.

In its responses to parliamentary questions, the Spanish government has always maintained that it "constantly defends the interests and rights of Spaniards, including those of fishermen" and "ensures the development and prosperity of Ceuta and Melilla".
"One of the missions of the Maritime Service of the Civil Guard of Ceuta is to prevent the realization of illegal fishing activities in the Spanish jurisdictional waters of Ceuta...," the Spanish Executive explained.
