Spanish TV Channel Defends Controversial Interview with Alleged Moroccan Drug Lord

In response to the DGSN regarding an "alleged fake" interview conducted by the Spanish channel Cuatro, the latter comes to affirm that its work was done in good faith. And that it bothers...

Cuatro conducted an interview a few days ago, in which a man was presented as the Moroccan Pablo Escobar, an expert in the sale of psychotropic drugs, and that he would derive a monthly sum of 180,000 euros from this activity.

A few days later, the DGSN issued a press release, according to which this Pablo Escobar presented in the interview is only a simple car park attendant paid 2,000 dirhams by the channel to play the role and believing himself to be filming a movie. The DGSN had then demanded a right of reply.

But Cuatro has responded to these accusations in an article in El Pais dated May 8. According to sources within Unicorn, the company that produces "En el punto de mira": "We were very surprised by the statement from the Moroccan police. We know that uncomfortable truths are said in our report. But we didn’t pay anyone, nor did we edit anything."

The production company managers also specify that this man in the interview, everyone knows him in Morocco under the name "Moroccan Pablo Escobar". And that one can very well be both "drug dealer and car park attendant"...

On Twitter, Boro Barber, the journalist who conducted the interview, wrote: "We record uncomfortable truths and this generates reactions. It is false to claim that we have completely fabricated a testimony as part of the report on drug trafficking in Morocco. We presented everything we saw and experienced, with the rigor we always bring to "En el punto de mira". They would have been very surprised by the DGSN’s statements.
