Spanish Bus Giant Alsa Expands Dominance in Moroccan Public Transport

The Spanish company Alsa is gradually establishing itself in Morocco. It now controls several major cities including Casablanca and Rabat, and transports some 405 million passengers per year.
Alsa is on a roll in Morocco. This Spanish company known for its good performance has managed to establish itself as a true model and generates an estimated annual turnover of 263 million DH!
According to Les Inspirations éco, it is a real "success story" that took off in Marrakech before spreading throughout the kingdom. Alsa, in reality, reigns as the sole master in urban public transport by bus, thus controlling the most important cities of the kingdom. This clear dominance of Alsa, based on British capital, above all shows "the inability of Moroccan players to succeed in making their mark" in this sector, which is nevertheless open to competition.
Noting that it is a liberalized sector driven by the World Bank’s Urban Transport Reform Support Fund (FART), the daily wonders if there are really large Moroccan companies capable of managing the networks of medium and large cities in the kingdom. On the ground, only Alsa and City Bus have proven their ability to establish themselves in the difficult sector of public transport in Morocco.
According to Alberto Perez, CEO of Alsa, the success of his company is explained by the "arguments and commitments" proposed during the tenders, but also by its "financial capacity and [its] Moroccan experience," reports the same source.
