Spain to Welcome Vaccinated Travelers from All Countries Starting June 7

Spain is preparing to reopen its borders to travelers vaccinated against Covid-19, starting June 7, 2021. The news was announced at the FITUR in Madrid by the Head of the Spanish Government, Pedro Sánchez, who came to present the European digital green certificate.

While the issue of the Health Pass is agitating Europe with the announcement of a partial implementation from July 1st, Spain has decided to anticipate its provisions.

"From June 7, all vaccinated people and their families will be welcome in our country, Spain, regardless of their country of origin," said Mr. Sanchez, citing the complete therapeutic regimen of a vaccine authorized by the European Medicines Agency or the World Health Organization.

The ministerial order specifies that the British, who normally provide the largest contingent of tourists in Spain, will for their part be authorized to come freely from Monday, while only "essential" travel was allowed to them until now, Mr. Sanchez said.

They will be able to do so "without restrictions and without health requirements," and "they will not have to undergo health checks," he added, without specifying whether this meant that British tourists would not have to present a negative PCR test upon arrival in Spain as is the case for all travelers arriving in the country.

In his speech at FITUR, Pedro Sánchez also presented the Covid Digital Green Certificate (Digital Green Certificate) approved by the EU with the aim of reactivating tourism and the economy this summer. He specified that it is neither a passport nor a travel document. "It is a mechanism that will facilitate the mobility, as well as the arrival and transit of travelers, and which will be launched from July 1st."

Using a QR code, it will provide information on whether the traveler is vaccinated, has had Covid or that the result of their PCR test is negative.
