Spain’s PP Urges Government Action on Moroccan Fish Farm Expansion Near Melilla

The Popular Party (PP) of Melilla has called on the Spanish government to respond firmly to Morocco, which plans to build new fish farms on the maritime route connecting Almería to Melilla, after the one installed in Spanish territorial waters, near the Zaffarines islands.
"We cannot act on the basis of alleged intentions. This can be interpreted as a weakness or a lack of interest in defending the territorial integrity of Spain. And this is not good for anyone," said Sofía Acedo, the PP senator in Melilla, adding that her party will continue to defend the territorial integrity of Melilla "as we have always done, without ambiguity".

The deputy specifies that the PP will not hesitate to bring this issue before the European Parliament, because "Spain must not and cannot submit to Morocco’s permanent challenge to Spanish territorial waters." "We are witnessing a permanent affront by Morocco which uses the border territories to blackmail us," denounces Acedo.

"Since the invasion of the Moroccans in Ceuta in May, through the occupation of the territorial waters of the Canary Islands, the installation of fish farms in Zaffarines and now on the Almería-Melilla route, Morocco has never ceased to attack us. This shows how little or no respect it has for the Spanish government and its leaders," notes the PP deputy.
