Spain Unveils Foreign Policy Strategy, Prioritizes Cooperation with Morocco

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, Arancha González Laya, presented on Tuesday, at the Spanish Council of Ministers, the Strategy for Spain’s External Action for the period 2021/2024. This document, which will also be presented to the two chambers of the Spanish Parliament, emphasizes the importance of setting up "specific cooperation plans" with Morocco in areas of common interest.
Arancha González Laya, in this 100-page document, stresses the need and relevance of moving forward in consolidating the dialogue with the countries of the Maghreb region, particularly Morocco. It proposes the organization of regular political consultations with the Kingdom and the holding of high-level meetings, reports the MAP, adding that Spain plans to exercise an "active presidency" in 2021 of the 5+5 Dialogue of the Western Mediterranean, as well as the organization of the 5th Forum of the Union for the Mediterranean.
Another priority for Spain over the next four years is the promotion of the southern neighborhood of the EU and the Union for the Mediterranean. At the same time, the country will work to strengthen cooperation with the Sahel countries, support their economic and social development and their processes of strengthening institutions, and hold the 1st Hispanic-African Forum on Sustainable Cities, concludes the document.
