Spain Tightens Border Controls: Moroccan Workers Face New Entry Requirements in Ceuta

Passage into the Spanish enclave of Ceuta is becoming more difficult. Moroccan housekeepers and other commercial employees are required to produce a card or a work certificate to justify their entry.
It seems that the grievances of Moroccan and Spanish women’s rights associations have found an echo with the authorities of the neighboring country. Indeed, the decision to restrict access to Ceuta has taken effect since Thursday, May 2, without proposing alternatives to the helpless workers.
A large number of domestic or commercial employees were taken aback when the Moroccan border police declined their request to enter the Spanish city for lack of presentation of a work card or a certificate justifying their occupation, according to Al Ahdath Al Maghribia.
A difficult situation for these workers, whose only source of income is work in homes or businesses, and who preferred to camp on site while waiting for the authorities of the two countries to find a solution to their problem.
