Spain Strengthens Ties with Morocco, Calling It "Priority Partner"

Spain is multiplying gestures of goodwill towards Morocco. The head of government, Pedro Sanchez, declared on a local channel that "Morocco is a friendly country and a priority partner of Spain".
Invited on a Telecinco channel program, Pedro Sanchez insisted on the importance of the relationship between Morocco and Spain and stated that his country is the leading foreign investor in Morocco.

Earlier in the day, the new government spokeswoman, Isabel Rodriguez, stated that Morocco is a "friend" and a "partner" of Spain, also emphasizing the need to promote and "stabilize" diplomatic relations between the two countries.
On Monday, July 12, the new Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, already specified the urgency to "strengthen relations with Morocco", a "neighboring and friendly" country.

In an effort to inject new momentum into its foreign policy, Pedro Sanchez reshuffled his team on Saturday and dismissed Arancha Gonzalez Laya, the now former Minister of Foreign Affairs, who was heavily criticized for her "catastrophic" handling of the Ghali affair, which had caused a major crisis with Morocco.
