Spain Set to Cap 16-Year-Old Barcelona Prodigy Lamine Yamal, Edging Out Morocco

FC Barcelona player, Lamine Yamal Nasraoui Ebana, only 16 years old, could wear the Spanish national team jersey in the upcoming international matches. Morocco would therefore lose a gem.
According to sources close to the case cited by Sport.es, the prodigy, of Equatorial Guinean and Moroccan origin, is on the provisional list of coach Luis de la Fuente, with an official announcement expected on September 1st. Although he has not yet played for the first team, Lamine Yamal has already shown his potential within the lower categories of the "Roja".
Behind the scenes, a meeting took place between the young player, Francis Hernández and Vicente Blanco, coordinators of the lower categories of the Spanish national team, in a Barcelona restaurant. Luis de la Fuente seems to place great hopes in him, planning to present him as the surprise of the selection that will face Georgia and Cyprus as part of the qualifications for Euro 2024.
Despite Morocco’s interest, Lamine’s debut with Spain could well seal his football future. FIFA regulations stipulate that a player can change national teams if he has dual nationality, provided he has not played more than three matches for a selection. If Lamine honors his third cap, he would therefore be definitively linked to Spain. Especially since a selection with the first team would make him the youngest player to represent the country, surpassing the record held by Gavi.
