Spain Seeks to Reopen Dialogue with Polisario Front on Western Sahara Conflict

The Spanish government expressed on Tuesday its willingness to "resume" contacts with the Polisario Front and its commitment to finding a mutually acceptable solution by the parties to the conflict in the Sahara, within the framework of UN resolutions.
Speaking on the Polisario Front’s decision to suspend its contacts with Spain after its decision to support Morocco’s autonomy plan for the Sahara, government spokeswoman Isabel Rodríguez said that this new position of the government aims to contribute to the resolution of the conflict, with the "necessary participation" of the UN and the mutual agreement of the parties.
At the same time, the Secretary General of the Popular Party (PP), Cuca Gamarra, asked on Tuesday for Pedro Sanchez to appear before Congress to account for his visit to Morocco and the topics discussed with King Mohammed VI. On her Twitter account, she again denounced Sanchez’s decision to change Spain’s position on the Sahara "without the support of Congress", recalling that this decision has "already had serious consequences" on its relations with Algeria, one of its main gas suppliers.
