Spain Seeks Extension of Moroccan Transport Permits to Prevent Supply Chain Disruptions

The Spanish Ministry of Transport has asked its Moroccan counterpart to extend the validity of Moroccan authorizations from the 2020 quota until February 28th next. The aim is to avoid stock shortages and the inconvenience this could cause throughout the Spanish transport system.
If the Moroccan side responds favorably to this request, the Moroccan authorizations corresponding to the 2020 quota (both bilateral and temporary) will be valid for Spanish carriers until February 28, 2021.
From the second or third week of February, the 2021 quota authorizations could begin to be distributed among Spanish carriers in the normal way. In this case, they will be able to coexist with those of 2020 until February 28, 2021, without any inconvenience.
Thus, the authorizations will be granted for the journeys corresponding to the 2020 quota and planned by the carriers during the last week of January and the month of February. When applying for authorization via the ministry’s website, it should be indicated in the observation that this concerns the 2020 quota. Otherwise, by default, it will be assigned to the current year and processed accordingly.
As of March 1, 2021, only authorizations corresponding to the 2021 quota will be valid.
