Spain Seeks to Boost Energy Partnership with Algeria Amid Global Tensions

The head of the Spanish government, Pedro Sanchez, expressed to the Algerian president, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, on Sunday his willingness to strengthen energy cooperation between their two countries.
In a telephone interview he had on Sunday with the Algerian president, Pedro Sanchez thanked the latter for the "reliable" energy partnership that links the two countries and expressed his willingness to strengthen this cooperation, announced the Presidency of the Algerian Republic in a statement published on its Facebook page.

The call from the Spanish Prime Minister comes in a context marked by the Russian-Ukrainian conflict and Algeria’s position considered as an alternative to Europe’s gas supply.
To recall, Algeria closed, at the end of October, the Maghreb-Europe gas pipeline (GME) that connects it to Spain via Morocco. Since then, it has continued to supply Spain with gas through the Medgaz, with a lower capacity than the GME, but also through methane carriers.
