Spain’s Sanchez Meets FIFA Chief to Bolster 2030 World Cup Bid Amid Controversy

President Pedro Sanchez held a meeting with FIFA President Gianni Infantino in New York on Tuesday to defend the joint bid of Spain, Portugal and Morocco for the 2030 World Cup, after the controversy sparked by the Rubiales affair.
"Spain is working with Portugal and Morocco on a solid bid for the 2030 World Cup with an ambitious project. I told the president of @FIFAcom about it. And we’re doing it with a clear idea: football is a global sport that can convey values," Sanchez wrote in a post on X (formerly Twitter), accompanied by two photos of him with Infantino.
This meeting with Infantino comes in the wake of the controversy sparked by the forced kiss given by the president of the Spanish football federation, Luis Rubiales, to player Jenni Hermoso after the final of the women’s World Cup won by Spain. The Spanish government is doing everything it can to ensure that this affair does not affect the joint bid for the 2030 World Cup with Portugal and Morocco.
