Spain Repatriates Nearly 4,000 Citizens and Residents from Morocco Amid Travel Restrictions

A Trasmediterránea ferry will carry out the repatriation of Spaniards and Spanish residents stranded in Morocco this Sunday, April 11, after the suspension of flights with France and Spain. In total, nearly 4,000 people have already been repatriated in six days, via five ferries and three flights.
The repatriation of Spaniards and Spanish residents stranded in Morocco after the suspension of flights with Spain and France began on Monday, via Iberia flights and Baleària and Trasmediterránea ferries.
A final Iberia flight repatriated 217 people on Friday. On Sunday, another Trasmediterránea ferry will depart the port of Tanger Med for Algeciras, with 750 passengers on board, reports EFE.
Between April 4 and 9, more than 3,000 Spaniards and Spanish residents stranded in Morocco were repatriated via five ferries, from Tanger Med to Algeciras, and 913 others were repatriated by three flights, from Casablanca to Madrid. Those concerned had to provide a negative PCR test before boarding and book their tickets online.
In total, 62 ferries and five flights have been chartered by the Spanish and Moroccan authorities to repatriate about 35,000 people from Morocco to Spain since the start of the pandemic and the closure of borders.
