Spain Rejects Calls to Revise Agricultural Trade Deal with Morocco

Faced with the desire of the Iberian fruit and vegetable farmers and producers association, Asaja-Almeria, to revise the current trade agreement with Morocco, the Spanish government has given a refusal.
This agreement is at the root of the losses recorded in fruit and vegetable production and even the disappearance of the tomato sector, denounces the organization in its press release. A worrying situation that was at the heart of the discussions between the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture and Asaja-Almeria this week.
During the meeting, the Deputy Director General of Fruits and Vegetables said that the ministry and the Commission were not seeking to review the agreement. A position that surprised Asaja, who clearly does not understand the government’s stance.
"Moreover, there is a total lack of interest in clarifying the issues related to the payment of customs duties by Morocco. The ministry told us to go to Customs, Industry, Foreign Trade, which amounts to sending us into limbo," said Asaja.
However, Asaja hopes that the Spanish government will change its decision by supporting fruit and vegetable farmers before the commission.
