Spain Refutes Claims of Submarine Sale to Morocco Amid Naval Upgrade Concerns

Compromís senator Carles Mulet questioned the Spanish government about the alleged sale to Morocco of the submarine Tramontana "for one euro", announced by certain media.
In his question to the government, Mulet wanted to know if the sale of the submarine Tramontana to Morocco is "a preliminary step to the purchase, by the Royal Moroccan Navy, of three modern last-generation S-80+ (plus) submarines, equipped with AIP propulsion, torpedoes, anti-ship and long-range cruise missiles, with which the Alaouite kingdom will strengthen its deterrence and defense power in the strategic area of the Strait of Gibraltar".
In detail, Carles Mulet asked to know "the guarantees that the Spanish government has that this equipment will not be used by the Moroccan regime against Spanish interests". He also wants to know if the information that the submarine Tramontana would be sold to Morocco for the symbolic price of one euro, "proof of the excellent relations between the two countries", is verified.
In response, the government indicated that it had "no knowledge of the existence of any element to confirm the veracity of the information" concerning the sale of this submarine.
