Throughout this week, representatives of the Spanish Ministry of Labor in Morocco, in coordination with ANAPEC, will proceed, under the watchful eye of several Andalusian businessmen, to the selection of Moroccan agricultural workers who will carry out the strawberry harvest in Spain.
As every year, Morocco will make available to Spain thousands of agricultural workers to ensure the strawberry harvest operations. Thus, the selection of these women will be carried out this week in three areas in Morocco.
On the ground, the selection will be led by representatives of the Spanish Ministry of Labor in Morocco, who will coordinate with the Moroccan National Agency for the Promotion of Employment and Skills (ANAPEC). However, it should be noted, according to the Spanish news agency EFE, the arrival of "Andalusian businessmen working in the sector" who will closely follow the selection operations, in order to register the seasonal workers.
The selection operations this year will allow the retention of 6,500 seasonal workers. To this end, three cities will be visited and in which the recruitment of these mothers, primarily widows and divorcees, will be carried out.
In total, 14,538 Moroccan agricultural workers worked in the strawberry fields in Spain last year, while this year the number is increased to 17,000.
