Spain Reaffirms Sovereignty Over Ceuta and Melilla Amid Moroccan Claims

The Popular Party candidate for Congress, Javier Celaya, stated that Spain must reaffirm its sovereignty over Ceuta and Melilla internationally, while maintaining good relations with Morocco, which continues to claim the two cities.
Spain must "try to reach an agreement with Morocco, which is a neighboring and friendly country," even if the kingdom continues to maintain its claims on Ceuta and Melilla, explained Javier Celaya to Ceuta Actualidad, specifying that in any case, the Spanishness of the two enclaves is essential. In international forums, at the UN, NATO or the European Union, as well as in relations with the United States, Spain must ensure that "it is clear to everyone that Ceuta and Melilla are part of the Spanish nation," he insisted.
The PP, which is fighting to reach La Moncloa, plans to increase the armed forces to 140,000, which will allow for more effective defense of the two autonomous cities. Spain also has political weapons to assert itself more on the international stage, added Celaya, stressing that if the PP comes to power, the first official trip to be made will be to Morocco. The objective of Spanish diplomacy is to maintain a good relationship with Morocco, he specified.
