Morocco has benefited from more than 100 million euros in aid from Spain between 2014 and 2019. Aid that has been used to modernize the institutions of the kingdom and to strengthen the education and health systems.
Between 2014 and 2019, the Spanish government authorized gross disbursements of more than 100 million euros for the benefit of Morocco, including 96 million in grants, 4 million in credits and 2.5 million in loans, according to Europa Press, adding that in 2020, the kingdom received 4 million in non-reimbursable aid granted by the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID).
This sustained aid to Morocco is part of the fifth master plan for Spanish cooperation (2018-2021) with middle-income countries, but also of the EU’s delegated cooperation. Spanish aid is notably intended to strengthen and modernize Moroccan institutions as well as to support the education and health systems and promote economic opportunities.
On the migration front, cooperation projects are also being carried out and aim to promote the integration of Moroccan migrants in Spain, a country that is both a transit and a destination. Similarly, this year, with the National Agency for the Promotion of Employment, the equivalent of the SEPE in Spain, it is planned to find a way to capitalize on the experience of Moroccan seasonal workers who go to Spain each year to participate in the agricultural campaign, upon their return to Morocco. This, in order to promote the development of entrepreneurial projects and professional integration in the kingdom and to strengthen the circular migration scheme.
