Spain to Provide Morocco with Advanced Border Surveillance Systems

Spain will provide Morocco with advanced video surveillance systems to help it better address current challenges related to terrorism, smuggling and other forms of illicit cross-border activities.
Morocco and Spain are strengthening their bilateral cooperation in the fields of border security and the fight against illegal activities. The Spanish Ministry of the Interior has approved the purchase of 20 video surveillance systems to be provided to Morocco at a cost of 4.12 million euros. Signed by State Secretary for Security Rafael Pérez on October 20th, this agreement aims to modernize Morocco’s surveillance tools. It follows an agreement concluded by Interior Minister Fernando Grande-Marlaska in early August as part of international police cooperation protocols.
The contract was awarded to Etel 88 SA, a security company based in Madrid, specialized in the sectors of surveillance technology, defense and security, according to the Spanish media El Independiente and El Confidencial Digital. This company has extensive experience in the marketing and distribution of products for the aeronautics, defense and security sectors, offering various surveillance technologies, including thermal cameras, binoculars, night vision equipment and coastal surveillance radars.
The cost of each surveillance system is estimated at €206,000. These systems aim to "strengthen the material capabilities of the police forces" and improve cooperation in the fight against terrorism, human trafficking, organized crime, drug trafficking and other forms of cross-border crime that constitute threats to domestic and international security, explains the Spanish Minister of the Interior.
The purchase of 20 video surveillance systems is part of Spain’s Strategic Grant Plan for 2024-2026. This allows the Iberian peninsula to acquire and provide equipment to partner countries with existing collaboration agreements.
